California Passes Driving Law for Teens

September 25th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Any statistic you research will show that teen-aged drivers present the biggest driving risk in terms of age group delineations.  The legislature in California is apparently acting on those statistics, as it recently passed another law that restricts teen-agers’ ability to drive freely, according to an article that appeared recently on the News Factor Network.  The law will prevent young drivers from talking on cell phones while they drive.  “SB-33, introduced by Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto), bans teenage drivers from using any electronic devices while driving. This includes not only cell phones, but also pagers, laptops, and other devices — and even if hands-free.

Last year, California enacted a law requiring that all drivers use hands-free devices while talking on cell phones. SB 1613, also introduced by Senator Simitian, will take effect on July 1, 2008 — the same date that the new teenage-directed law will go into effect.”

As is also stated in the article, enforcement of this law could prove difficult.  However, any law that makes the roads safer is a good one.  If you have been injured by a reckless or negligent driver, you need to contact the personal injury lawyers at Williams Kherkher today to schedule a free initial consultation.  You can do so by calling us toll-free at (866) 950-9000.
